Water operation, water supply information campaign door-to-door

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Hantin Bonati hosted today a meeting with the leaders of water supply and sewerage enterprises in all the municipalities of the country. Following the meeting a week ago, the operation plan for restoring legality in drinking water consumption was presented in detail.

After clarifying to water managers that they, together with the respective municipalities, are the main actors in the process, Deputy Minister Bonati guaranteed that the government will be supportive, encouraging and monitoring their efforts to increase performance by reducing losses and increasing receipts.

The meeting also emphasized the need for water utilities to manage human resources because in many cases they are overflowing.
“We shall refer to the facts about the losses that the system has; half of them result in loss of management. Taking into account that the cost of the service are two main items, which is the cost of social security payrolls paid to staff and the cost of electricity, both are in our judgment too simple to be reduced. An internal reorganization of the enterprises is necessary, “said Deputy Minister Bonati.

He asked water supply directors to undertake a door-to-door information campaign for each subscriber inviting them to become part of the process of restoring legality in drinking water consumption.

“In addition to the engagement of central government, with this awareness, a very important role will play its own enterprises. You are responsible for providing a better service. The sense of awareness, if possible, and you have to arrange the job, go door-to-door and consumers should be told the truth as it is, like those who have been regular with the payment of the obligations all these years and those which were not regular, not just for their fault, but for the fault of the entire system, of all levels of government, “Bonati insisted.
