Minister Gjiknuri and Deputy Prime Minister Mesi in HEC Vau i Dejës: Good Management of Cascade avoids flooding

Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Damian Gjiknuri accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Senida Mesi inspected Vau i Dejës hydropower plant in Shkodra Region. The Albanian Power Corporation is implementing a complex investment program that has contributed to increasing the efficiency of production, increasing the safety of the work and improving the working conditions for the staff.

Minister Gjiknuri said that one week ago there was flooding in Albania, but good management of the cascade, exports and the sale of energy in time to leave the expected volumes of water from the rainfall caused more energy to be produced, increased energy reserves and no floods occurred in the sub-Shkodra.

“During these four years, it is not a matter of luck but also a matter of good management of the Cascade that the citizens of Shkodra have been rescued from the massive floods they witnessed in previous years. I congratulate the staff for the good work done but at the same time to give the good news to the Albanians that the energy reserve is improving, we are about to go into normality to start energy planning for the coming year after an extremely dry year financial difficulty. We are in a normality climate with regard to energy projections. This is good news for the Albanian economy, for the State Budget because in the end public finances were threatened by possible droughts, “said Gjiknuri.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Senida Mesi said that the investments made over the last years in the Drin Cascade have been serious.

“I want to stress at once what the minister said, mainly the good management of the Drin Cascade, the strict tracking of the regulation has made possible the absence of the floods in the last 5 years. It is a regulation dating back to the creation of this hydroelectric power station, which shows that if the regulation is strictly followed there is no problem for areas around. We also assure the Mayor of Vau i Dejës that we will continue exactly at the same pace “, said Mesic.
