Meetings In Podgorica, Gjiknuri: Work On The Feasibility Of The Adriatic-Ionian Highway

During the official visit to Podgorica, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Damian Gjiknuri held bilateral talks with the Minister of Transport and Communications Osman Nurkovic and the Minister of Economy Dragica Sekulic.

The Ministers underlined the fact that work has already begun to conduct a Feasibility Study for the Adriatic-Ionian Highway. This study is expected to carry out a detailed analysis of potential investment, intervention priorities, in order to make a financially viable project to be supported.

“We discussed about road infrastructure projects where both countries have as priority project the Adriatic-Ionian highway. We have received the necessary funding to make the final feasibility study. I also got acquainted with infrastructure development projects in Montenegro that directly affect the connection with Albania. I raised the problems that require the attention of the Montenegrin party for the completion of other secondary roads connecting other border points with Albania, “said Minister Gjiknuri.

Further, he focused on efforts to establish a common border point in Han Hoti, just as it already functions in Muriqan.

“There are concrete steps and I believe that this, with the commitment of the respective governments and institutions, soon will become a reality. Also, the Montenegrin side presented us with a development project for the whole of Shkodra Lake, an integrated project that includes the elements of tourism, agriculture and navigation. I think this is a project that we have to push forward, “Gjiknuri underlined.

In a meeting with the Minister of Economy and Energy, Gjiknuri focused on the commitment to the joint project of the Ionian-Adriatic-Pipeline (IAP).

“We have decided that from the stage of creating a joint unit to go to the stage for establishing a joint venture company for the IAP project. In this way we can promote it to potential investors and I believe that soon this will be concluded before the two countries’ governments are set up for next spring, “said Gjiknuri.
