Investment in water supply, Gjiknuri in Elbasan: 22 thousand subscribers benefit

Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Damian Gjiknuri, accompanied by Mayor Qazim Sejdini inspected the works being carried out for the reconstruction of the “28 Nëntori” and “Skëndërbeu” waterworks in Elbasan. This investment project at the value of 457,524,645 ALL envisages the replacement of all major distribution lines, the construction of 430 manholes, individual and collective tapes of water meters, in which 1575 meters will be installed for each family subscriber.

The implementation of this project will eliminate water losses in this area as well as ensure 24 hour water supply without interruption. So far, 25% of works have been carried out, including 9 km of completed main line with all pipes placed.

“The current investment is very important, and it gives half of Elbasan, at the same time 24 hours of water, which means 22 thousand families, and we still have 10 thousand families that are suburban part of the city. Your investment for Elbasan is maximum, our obligation is to increase the performance of the water supply company not only in the city but also in the village “, said Mayor Sejdini.

Meanwhile, Minister Gjiknuri noted the importance of this investment for Elbasan but focused on water reform.

“Water has been a commodity that has unfortunately been abused in Albania. In order to have more investments in water supply and sanitation, Albanian citizens must have a much stronger financial discipline in the water sector, just as we did with electricity. The first signs are promising, they are very good, “said Minister Gjiknuri.

According to him, the good water supply performance will bring more investment including the rest of the city.

“I must once again call on citizens to benefit from these days. The main focus at the beginning will be on businesses, data are being recorded and data exchanges with tax authorities and other structures that have data from businesses to see large water consumers who unfortunately are debtors or abusers. Whoever abuses water and connects illegally will be punished legally. Debtors will stop supply and any unlawful connection will then be punished with criminal measures. Hence, in the beginning it will start with businesses, but from this period should benefit everyone, even the citizens so that everything that needs to be formalized must be formalized at this time “, underlined Gjiknuri.
