Gjiknuri meets US Deputy Secretary for Energy: Co-operation on Energy Projects of Common Interest

At the end of the visit to the United States, Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Damian Gjiknuri had a meeting with Deputy Secretary of the Department of Energy Dan Brouillette.

The interlocutors praised the high level of co-operation between Albania and the United States regarding issues related to energy security policies and gas corridors.

Minister Gjiknuri recognized the US official with the efforts of the Albanian government in reforming the energy sector, market liberalization and interconnection with neighboring countries. In this framework, USAID’s assistance in drafting the Energy Strategy document was also valuable.

Gjiknuri and Brouillette also paid attention the hydrocarbon sector, the field of oil exploration and exploitation and the performance of the Southern Gas Corridor project, part of which is the TAP pipeline. Minister Gjiknuri informed the US Deputy Secretary for the steps in the drafting of the Gas Master Plan and further prospects for the gasification of the country.

Mr. Gjiknuri stressed that Albania welcomes US investment in the field of hydrocarbons while providing potential in this regard.

Deputy Secretary Brouillette congratulated the Minister on the results achieved within the reforms in the energy sector, while expressing the readiness to provide expertise on those issues that the Albanian government deems necessary in the electricity sector and the field of hydrocarbons.
