Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Damian Gjiknuri was in Vlora, where he inspected the implementation of the UNDP-supported project for the installation of solar panels for the needs of hot water in public buildings in Albania.
As part of GEF / UNDP / UNEP Global Transformation Market for Solar Water Heaters, Albania’s program aims to accelerate market development for these systems as a way to save electricity and other energy resources used for producing warm water and mitigating the phenomenon of climate change.
So far it has been possible to finance and install solar thermal systems for hot water in more than 55 public institutions in Shkodra, Lezha, Tirana, Durrës, Rrogozhinë, Lushnje, Elbasan, Gramsh, Berat, Fier, Vlora, Himara and Saranda.
One of them is the Garden Nr. 10 in Vlora, in which a solar thermal system is installed to meet the need for hot water efficiently and pro-environmental.
“It’s an Albanian government program with UNDP to address the needs for hot water in socially-owned facilities such as kindergartens, nurseries or elderly homes. It is very useful to use solar panels for energy saving. The installation of these types of panels in the public buildings from Shkodra to Saranda creates the conditions to reduce by 70% the need for heating energy, “said Minister Gjiknuri.
Vlora Mayor, Dritan Leli stressed the importance of these projects to improve the conditions but also reduce the costs of local government in the management of local institutions.
“Four kindergartens and one nursery in Vlora, just like a playground in Orikum, have already become part of this important investment,” said Mayor Leli.
